Segment Editor
Review, edit and approve translations segment by segment.
Overview
The segment editor is where you review AI translations and make corrections before exporting. It opens as a side panel when you click any segment in the file view.
Layout
The editor shows three text areas:
- Source text (read-only) — the original content with placeholders displayed as colored badges
- AI translation (read-only) — the raw output from the AI model
- Reviewed translation (editable) — your final version, pre-filled with the AI translation
Editing translations
Click the reviewed translation field to start editing. The editor supports:
- Free text editing — type your corrections directly
- Placeholder badges — placeholders appear as colored, non-editable badges within the text. You cannot accidentally delete or modify them
- Auto-save — changes are saved automatically after a short delay (about 1 second). A "Saving..." indicator appears while saving, followed by a green checkmark
Placeholders
Placeholders from the source text are displayed as numbered colored badges (1, 2, 3...). When you hover over a badge, you can see the raw placeholder value (e.g. {0}, {/0}).
The editor prevents you from accidentally deleting placeholders. If the source has placeholders, they must be present in the reviewed translation.
Segment statuses
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
Pending | Not yet translated |
Translated | AI translation available, not yet reviewed |
Reviewed | Human has edited the translation |
Approved | Translation approved and ready for export |
Approving segments
Click the Approve button to mark a segment as approved. The editor automatically advances to the next segment, making it easy to review multiple segments in sequence.
Navigation
- Use the Previous and Next buttons to move between segments
- Changes are saved automatically before switching segments
- You can also click any row in the file table to jump directly to that segment
Multi-segment units
Some XLIFF files contain translation units with multiple segments (e.g. a paragraph split into sentences). These are handled as a group — when you edit one segment in a multi-segment unit, the entire unit is updated together to maintain consistency.
Tips
- Review the AI translation first — often only small corrections are needed
- Pay attention to placeholder placement — the AI usually places them correctly, but double-check for right-to-left languages or complex sentence restructuring
- Use the approve-and-advance flow for quick batch review
- The file table highlights the currently selected segment, so you always know where you are
